Newborn’s notes to Mom

1: Bonding with you is not guaranteed to happen immediately I pop out! It takes me some time to get used to being out of a nice warm environment and not having to do anything to get fed! And it is tough work having to learn how to latch on and get my sucking action right! So be patient if I wriggle and squirm and cry for my food!

2: Nighttime is PLAY time! When I was in your tum, you rocked me to sleep during the day as you went about your daily activities. Then at night when all was quiet, I used to wake up and do a roll or two, or three in your tum. I stretched, I turned and I played! Now that I am here, in my crib, it is difficult for me to swop my night time play to daytime – be patient and I will get it right – it will just take a bit of time!!

3: I do feel a bit bad about your having to feed me every 3 hours or so and I know that breastfeeding is hard work for you! Look on the bright side -you at least use up calories whilst you feed me AND it helps you to lose a bit of weight, whilst I grow big and strong and healthy.

4: I would love you to find a support group and listen to what other mommy’s say but  don’t think that all that is shared has to apply to me!!. Remember each little human is an individual and I am YOUR individual. But at least you can get some ideas for that tired brain of yours!  And you can get much needed sympathy from the others in the group if I am giving you a tough day!

5: Above all mom, I trust you and you must trust in yourself. What works for you and for me is right. Even if the book says it isn’t!! Don’t be made to feel guilty or be pressured into doing anything which feels wrong to you. If I am thriving and happy then you can’t be doing much wrong, can you?? YOU are my mom and I think that you only want what is best for me. What worked for your mom when you were a little being, may not work for you with me as your newborn. Realise this, accept it, embrace it and do what YOU feel is right and I will be happy!!

6: I love you lots, mom.

P.S I am sorry about all the wet and dirty nappies! This too, shall pass, I promise!!!!
